Baccarat

Baccarat is an exciting and thrilling game that is played at all major casinos
around the world.  You can either play the game against the dealer or
wager as an active spectator that either the player's hand will win, the
banker's hand will win, or that the game will result in a tie.

Baccarat is a game of chance played with tempo and style. Baccarat has a
low casino edge, giving the player a much better chance of winning more
over time than many other casino games. Unlike many other games such as
blackjack or craps where making a mistake in pay can cost you greatly,
internet baccarat players have an advantage in that the casino's edge is
fixed and you can't make it worse by making a mistake.

Another advantage is that though baccarat has strict rules that must be
followed, you as a player need not even ever really learn them. The casino
dealer is paid to know the rules, direct the players when to make bets,
collect losing bets and pay off winners, and in mini-baccarat even deal the
cards. You simply bet on one of three possible results (banker, tie or player)
and let the game play it-self.

It's a very simple game to play with no decisions made after a bet is placed.
There are three bets available: The Player’s hand, the Banker’s hand, or a
Tie. The winning hand is the hand that holds two or three cards totaling
closest to nine. A bet on the Player pays even money. A bet on the Banker
pays even money minus a 5% house commission. A bet on a Tie pays 8 to 1.

The objective is to get a hand that is closer to 9 in value than the banker's.
The game is played 'modulo 10', that is if the total of the hand is greater
than 10, then 10 is subtracted from the total. Hence, the value of a hand is
always between 0 and 9 inclusive.

For example, if the player's cards total 14, 10 is subtracted and the value of
the hand becomes 5. An ace counts as 1, cards 2 to 9 count as face value
and 10, jack, queen and king counts as zero.

The Rules

To start a hand both player and banker are dealt two cards and the next
move depends on the cards in the hands.

A hand value of 9 wins over any lesser total, and if neither player has a 9
then 8 wins over any lesser total. Tied 9s or tied 8s are a stand off so no
money changes hands. (unless ties can be bet on). A hand of 8 or 9 is
known as a natural.

If neither the player or the banker has a natural then play goes to the
player. The player stands on a total of 6 or 7, but if the player has a total of
5 or less he/she must draw one card.

Now it is the bankers turn. With a total of 7, he stands. With a total of 6 or
less, his selection depends on the value of his two card total and the value
of the card that the player drew. The rules are as follows:

Baccarat must be played by the rules below. There are no options for either
the player or the dealer - it's all down to chance!

If the player has drawn a card, the following rules apply to the banker.
Baccarat Tips:

A "Tie Bet" is when the value of the
"Player Hand" is equal to the value of
the "Banker Hand"  and the payout is
8:1  but you  have to pay the house
(the casino) 5% of   your winnings
from a "Tie Bet".  Either way,  this
bet's  payout is far  higher than the
other 2 bets.

The one card placed face-up on  the
table indicates how many cards the
dealer will burn. If the card turned up
is a four of clubs,  the dealer will burn
four cards
