Keno
Want a game you can relax at and just take a break from the craps or blackjack tables?
This is the game. Picking up the nuances of standard keno will take about three
seconds of your time – if you’re not in a rush.
If you are familiar with lotto, your are familiar with most aspects of Keno. A player buys a
ticket with numbers from 1 to 80 and then marks anywhere from one to twenty numbers
on his ticket. A keno machine then randomly draws 20 numbers from the 80 possible,
and numbers are displayed on the Keno board. The player wins if enough numbers on
the ticket match the balls drawn. That’s all there is to the game…, except the betting
combinations.
If you simply mark your numbers on the ticket and wait for the draw, you are playing a
Straight ticket. You choose from one to 15 numbers (up to 20, 32 or 40 in some
casinos) and then decide how much to bet. Usually straight tickets are $1 and you can
bet multiples thereof - say $4 bet which would pay 4 times the $1 payout rate for
winning tickets.
A Split ticket is just 2 or more straight tickets played on the same ticket. On each ticket
you pick your numbers but you may not pick the repeat the same number on both tickets.
Way tickets allow the player to pick groups of numbers, where each groups has the
same number of numbers, thus creating more possibilities of winning. A 3-3-3
combination (called a 3-way-3 or just 3/3) would be a winning ticket if you hit any one of
the three combinations.
When considering odds, the truth is the none of these combinations tickets give any
advantage or disadvantage to the player – they simply add a measure of convenience in
buying tickets.
To promote Keno, many online casinos offer Special tickets to patrons. These tickets
allow a player to pick numbers in certain combinations or sets, decided before the
game starts and have special payout rates from standard keno tickets. An examples of
a special ticket is one where the player could pick either the top 40 or the bottom 40
numbers. Here a player would win if all twenty numbers were in the top or bottom
section they selected or if none of the numbers were in the section.
House percentage are so high in Keno (from 20% - 50%), this is probably not the game
for you if you’re looking for the “big win”, Then again if your just looking for some
relaxing fun with the chance for a payoff, then a Keno ticket maybe just the ticket for you.
