Pai Gow Poker
Pai Gow poker is a variation of poker, played with a standard 53 card deck.( One
joker is included.)
A Pai Gow game requires 6 players and a dealer. The players aim is beat both of
the dealer’s hands. Player will receive 7 cards face down each, from which they
must make a five card high poker hand and a two card hand. Dealer will also
receive 7 cards and make two hands. Players must beat dealer with both hands to
win their wage
Pai Gow players start by placing two bets of equal size. Then, in a
counterclockwise order, the dealer shuffles and deals seven hands of seven cards
face down, which equals 49 cards, therefore, 4 are left in the deck.
The two poker hands are formed from one high hand made up of five cards and
one low hand containing two cards. Since a joker is included in Pai Gow, the
highest five-card hand consists of five aces and the highest two-card hand consists
of two aces. The cards in Pai Gow poker are ranked like usual poker hands with
one exception. The joker can be used only as an ace, or the high card to complete
a straight, flush, straight flush or royal flush.
The one exception to standard poker rankings is in Pai Gow, the A - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5
straight is the second highest straight. The two-card hand will either be a pair or
two individual cards. The highest two-card hand is a pair of aces and the lowest is
a 2 - 3.
It is important for players to remember that the 5 card hand must be better than
the 2 card hand. If the hands are set incorrectly, the player loses automatically.
All players play against the banker, who could be the dealer, or a player putting up
the required funds. In order to win your bet you must win both hands.
Once all hands are set, the dealer will compare the player's hand rank with
banker's hand for payouts.
The player is betting that their 5 card hand is better than the dealer’s 5 card and
also that their 2 card hand is also better than the dealer's. Following is a chart of
