POKER PERSONALITIES (3)
Daniel Negreanu - "KidPoker"
Daniel Negreanu was born in July 26, 1974, in Toronto,
Canada. Daniel's parents immigrated from Romania
just before he was born.
When Daniel was 16 years old he started playing pool
and betting on sports in local pool halls in Toronto and
playing poker in private clubs and local charity casinos.
Once Daniel started playing poker, he got “the bug,”
and within two months he was playing serious and
doing quite well.
When Daniel turned 21 he moved Las Vegas, but
quickly found out the game in Vegas wasn’t as easy to
beat as the game in Toronto and went broke a few
times before he started to succeed
At age 23, Daniel became the youngest player to win a World Series bracelet by
winning the pot- limit tournament in 1998. He now has six World Series bracelets to
his name.
Since 1997 Daniel has won more tournaments than any other player, and has won
over $4.2 million in tournament winnings. In 2004 he was named ESPN’s PLAYER OF
THE YEAR and also the World Poker Tour runner up player of the year. He was also
Card Player magazine's "Player of the Year" in 2004. Daniel now writes poker articles
for Card Player Magazine, and is also an instructor at Poker School Online. He also
wrote a chapter in Doyle Brunson’s book "Super System 2."
Now aged 30, Daniel Negreanu has evolved into one of poker's brightest stars, and
most respected players. He routinely plays in the biggest cash games and wins the
most prestigious poker tournaments.
Daniel is a huge hockey fan and he can often be seen wearing his favorite team's
(Toronto Maple Leafs) hockey jersey at the poker table
Gus Hansen - "The Great Dane"
Gustav "The Great Dane" Hansen was born in
Copenhagen, Denmark.
Gus Hansen has been a competitor for many
years. Before he played poker, he was a
ranked backgammon player. He started
playing poker in Santa Cruz, California..
Gus Hansen's poker play is unconventional
compared to other players. He didn't learn how
to play poker by reading books; he came up
with his own style through trial and error. Gus
Hanson's post flop play is so good that he can
play a lot of hands that other poker players are
unwilling to play.

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth has a record eleven gold
bracelets and is one of the all time top money
winners.
As a student at the University of Wisconsin in
1985, Phil discovered poker while studying and
then continued on, at the age of 24 years old,
to become the youngest player to ever win the
World Series in 1989. Born in Madison,
Wisconsin, he currently lives in Palo Alto,
California, and travels the tournament circuit
for larger buy-in events. He is a spokesman for
the online card-room Ultimate Bet
Phil has a book out called, "Play Poker Like the Pros". His World Series of Poker
accomplishments include first place finishes in The Championship Event in 1989, Limit
Holdem in 1992, 1993, and 2003, two No Limit Holdem events in 1993, one in 2001,
and one in 2003, and Pot Limit Holdem in 1997.
Phil Hellmuth, in classic John McEnroe style, has proven himself to be both one of the
most proficient tournament poker players of all time and one of the most cantankerous
poker figures of all. He always seems to get upset when someone beats him, whether
by luck or skill… but its pretty obvious that Phil doesn’t consider getting beaten by skill
a possibility.
Unfortunately for Phil Hellmuth, whose lifetime ambition is to be the greatest poker
player of all time, he may well achieve his goal, but ultimately go into the poker history
books more for his public perception
In the inaugural season of the World Poker Tour, he won both the Five Diamond World
Poker Classic at the Bellagio and the LA Poker Classic at the Commerce Casino. In
season two he won the Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure, and placed 3rd at the Five
Diamond World Poker Classic at the Bellagio.
As of 2004, Hansen has won $1.8 million at tournaments. He is very selective in which
tournaments he plays and generally only joins some of the larger buy-in events.
Gus Hansen is one of the best young players in poker today. In 2004 he was one of
the first three inductees into the World Poker Tour Walk of Fame, with Doyle Brunson,
and actor James Garner.
Gus divides his time between continents, living in both Monte Carlo and Las Vegas.
He is currently employed as house pro of the online poker site Poker Champs, of which
he is a founding member
