those offered by the oddsmakers Do your research, trust your information and judgment and more often

Often a factor in many other forms of betting, in sports betting luck is only a factor in individual game
outcomes. In the long term, knowledge and effort will overcome the ‘bad breaks’ that lthat every gambler
periodically experiences.
Types of bets
Straight or Straight-up bet
The easiest (and most common) bet is a wager on one single game. The better choices a particular team to
win in a contest and bets accordingly. In any contest, a favorite is chosen by the oddsmakers and a
pointspread is established for the game This spread determines the number of points by which the favorite
must win for betting purposes.
Once the outcome of the game is known, the spread is added to the underdogs score to determine the true
score for betting purposes. If the favorite wins the game, but their score is less than the underdogs score
plus the spread, the favorite would be determined to have lost the game for betting purposes & all bets
placed on the favorite would be lost.
When viewing odds, the favorite is shown by a minus sign (-3) and the underdog by a plus sign (+3). This
spread is established by the oddsmakers with the intent of trying to even out the amount of bets placed on
both teams. Excessive bets on one team may cause the spread to change prior to the contest start.
For straight bets with a pointspread, the bettor is required to bet $11 for every $10 the customer expects
wishes to win. If the customer wins his bet, he wins $10, but if he loses, the customer must pay $11.
Remember, it is not necessary to bet on the favorite. If the bettor believes the underdog will either lose the
contest by less than the pointspread (or win outright), he can bet the underdog an is awarded the points
determined by the spread to establish the final score.
Over/Under Bets.
It is not necessary to bet on a specific team during a sports contest. With an over/under bet (also known as
total bet) the customer wagers on the combined score of both team in the contest. For example, if the
oddsmakers have set the combined score scored by the teams as 38, the customer can bet the over if they
believe the teams will score more than 38 points when added together, or alternatively the under if he feels
they will not.
Parlay Bets
A parlay is a bet on two or more teams or selections. The bettor can combine different sports, pointspreads
and moneylines. In a parlay your original stake and winnings are re-invested on the next game and all
selections must be correct - one loss and your parlay loses.
Parlay bets can be affected by events after the bet has been placed. For example a five game parlay may be
impossible by such things as a cancelled game, a tie, a specified pitcher not starting a baseball game. If this
situations , the parlay bet would be reduced by the game affected and the 5 game parlay would become a 4
game parlay
Due the requirement of winning multiple bets, the odds on parlay bets can be difficult got the uninitiated
gambler to determine. Although the payoff on a large parlay bet may be huge, the risk can also be
correspondingly high.
